ABOUT US

The James E. Vaughn Foundation is a grant-seeking 501c3 organization whose mission is to help African American families understand the critical influences of primary education in their children's lives and teach them strategies to employ that will enable their children to benefit maximally from this early educational environment.

The foundation is named for the late James Edward Vaughn. James, a native of Inman, SC, was a 1962 graduate of Carver High School and a 1966 graduate of Livingstone College, Salisbury, NC, with a BS in Chemistry and a minor in Physics. He was employed by NASA and retired from Richard Kelly Oldsmobile-Nissan. He was a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity.

James was a great source of wisdom and encouragement for the Jeffries family, especially to the youngest generation. He was a father-figure to many and a bridge builder. He was a great example of hard-work and dedication and was the reason many of us set really high goals and worked toward their fulfillment. James believed in being educated and showed us how to see beyond our circumstances to what could be.

This foundation is named for James E. Vaughn because we want to also help parents to see beyond their circumstances to greater possibilities for their children through education.
